Handmade "Strohstern" from Germany

 

A long tradition in Germany, dating back hundreds of years, Strohstern are sold in the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) set up in town squares for the weeks leading up to Christmas. 

 

Simple and elaborate at the same time, these Christmas stars are incredibly beautiful.

 
Each star is painstakingly handmade from golden pieces of straw, patiently tied together in lovely geometric patterns. Each is then fitted with a fine gold thread hanger, for suspending the stars from the Christmas Tree.
