We timed our visit to Rügen perfectly, the weather was about to change, that did not and would not have stopped us, but as it happens, we had planned to take a drive to the eastern side of Rügen for a look around before driving back home.
Firstly, one last walk along the beach and Strandpromenade, as well as some play time for Louis in the park.
Once we had stretched our legs and blew out the morning fuzzies from our bodies we headed east towards the island of Ummanz... a small island that is part of Rügen Island, accessible by bridge (Die Ummanzbrücke), we headed to the village of Waase where we planned to have lunch.
The drive to Ummanz took a wee bit longer than expected, a few small detours along cobblestone roads and small dirt roads to just simply "have a look". The roadways and small villages along the way were so lovely to see, rolling hills and fields upon fields of wheat and corn. The tree lined roads, simply spectacular!
We arrived at Waase and had an amazing lunch at the Pension & Fischrestaurant “Holzerland” - amazing fish dishes and the restaurant was packed! thankfully that we were invited to share a large long table with another group of people.
Afterwards we went for a drive around Ummanz and made a couple of short stops. They were short stops at that.... the mosquitoes were out in swarms!
We circled around Ummanz by car and made our final stop again in Waase for coffee at the Cafe in der Pfarrscheune, Louis had ice cream :)
Our time on Rügen was at an end...a beautiful island that I will definitely return to for a longer period of time and extensive exploration. This trip was just a small taste of what Rügen has to offer and I enjoyed it immensely.
