Erica is in the NEWS!

Our niece Erica appeared in the local paper! The above photo was published along with the following article.... we're so very proud of her :)

Her Birthday, but presents go to the SPCA

Erica Papke has just turned 10, but she has a lesson of selflessness for adults.

For the past three years, Erica has enjoyed her birthday by having others help animals at the SPCA. When she was eight, Erica decided to forego presents for herself in favour of donations to the animal agency.
"I still get presents from my mom & dad, but everybody else gives to the SPCA," said Erica who lives in East Kelowna. "I really like animals, and I thought it would be nice to give them toys and things to make them happy."
Her mother, Rosalie, said she's very proud of her daughter's decision. "I had heard of a little girl who gave her presents to a friend who lost her house in the fires," said Rosalie. "I thought that was a wonderful idea, so I said to her it would be nice if she took donations instead of presents. She grasped the idea very quickly. It was her idea to take the donations for the SPCA."
It would probably be a good thing if more children took a similar decision to Erica's and opted for donations to one worthy cause or another of their choice in lieu of presents.

Erica is shown with family pets Jack and Lady.
