On Friday evening I went to see a new dance series debut. and wow! it totally knocked off my socks! I've never seen anything like this before.
"bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS" by Marie Chouinard. It was a rich, wildly entertaining compilation of playful, sensual and erotic imagery and stunning dancing enhanced by a cleverly woven mesh of percussive sounds, music, recorded speech, breathy sighs, grunts, orgasmic gasps and squeals.
The props used really amazed me and the dancers used them with such grace and strength. They made it look easy but you could see the strength it took in each move they made. It was quiet acrobatic in some parts as well.
My friend and I were invited to a talk with the dancers afterwards and a private reception. Her daughter is a choreographer from Montreal and was working behind the scenes at the show. It was really interesting to learn more about the dance and choreography straight from the dancers themselves. A must see if this ever comes to your city. It's unusual in every way so be prepared to experience something very unique.
I also finished a very interesting book this weekend and it's a great read, especially for those who love books with a bit of mystery and intrigue. "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. The reader meets a troubled family, right out of the pages of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights, and a crumbling Gothic mansion called Anglefield. There is a secret garden, confused identities and tragedy. I won't give it away but it is one book you can't put down when you start!
I'm working on a couple of scrapbook swaps right now too! The Scrapaholics club Recipe Card swap this month is "Tropical Drinks". I have chose the Cuban Mojito... memories of this drink from Cuba will be included on my 8x8 recipe card. I'm also participating in a Match Book Card swap this month... the theme is friendship. I hope to get most of this done over the next two weeks... the deadline is the 30th of May.
Cuban Mojito
(pronounced moh-HEE-toh),
The original authentic recipe from
La Bodeguita del Medio in
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda
Place the mint leaves into a long mojito glass (often called a "collins" glass) and squeeze the juice from a cut lime over it. You'll want about two ounces of lime juice, so it may not require all of the juice from a single lime. Add the powdered sugar, then gently smash the mint into the lime juice and sugar. Add ice (preferably crushed) then add the rum and stir, and top off with the club soda (you can also stir the club soda in as per your taste). Garnish with a mint sprig.
What are you waiting for, go put on some Perez Prado mambo music and start making mojitos!
This week there's a few things in the daytimer that are keeping me busy.
