Difficult days ahead....

Change is sometimes good and sometimes it's not so good. The next couple of weeks are going to be very difficult for my dear friend Charles & for me too!

Those of you who have followed my blog know about my 94 year old friend Charles. He really is an amazing person and for his age, living alone, he's done fantastic! Over the past 16 years he has become a part of our family, sharing holidays, birthdays and other special events.

Unfortunately, time is catching up with him and he's recently had some health issues and has slowed down quite a bit. Charles is moving... now moving sucks at the best of time for most of us! imagine being 94 and having to move. He won't be my next door neighbor anymore, but he's moving just down the road, a 10 minute drive away. We're still going to see each other, we just won't be 2 minutes away.

That's the not so good part, but on the good side of things, Charles is moving to a Senior Community (not a home or hospital!) but a community, where he has his own apartment, can come and go as he pleases, take part in activities etc. the added benefits... there's a dining lounge, no more trying to cook for himself, his meals are served three times a day, it's like a restaurant. There's also a Bistro open 24 hours a days so he can pop in there anytime he wants as well. There's staff to clean his apartment daily and do his laundry and best of all, there's nurses on staff in case of emergency and he has a 24 hour lifeline emergency button in case he needs help. I'm relieved that he'll be in a safer environment.

I'm going to help him next week, sort out the things he wants to take to his new home & do some purging. Then on August 25th the packers come in and on the 26th the movers arrive at 10am. I'm going to take him out on the 26th for the day then take him to his new place. It's going to be an emotional week for us.

Ahhhh, what a special friend you are to Charles. I'm sure he really appreciated you! Best of luck with his move. I'm happy he is only a short distance away and you will be able to visit each other often. Good luck Charles!

A difficult transition to be sure.

Life will be easier with more help, and thank goodness Charles is still reasonably close by. Izzy you are the most wonderful friend that anyone could have.
We are all so lucky to have you in our lives...

Aw Izzy, I think I understand how you are feeling.I cannot imagine having G'dad move into another place. I guess be grateful that he is making the decision for himself and he is still going to have his independence and be close by to visit with you too.
Good luck with the move etc...tough times for everyone.
